Morris Property has successfully completed the renovation and fit-out of a prominent Grade II-listed building on Mardol, Shrewsbury, delivering a striking new home for popular local restaurant, Avatar Restaurant.

A well-established name in the town, Avatar Restaurant, known for its authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine, will open its doors at 49 Mardol next week following its relocation from across the street.

The project has seen the sensitive transformation of the historic property into a contemporary dining destination, balancing modern restaurant requirements with the building’s heritage character. The new venue provides 2,437 sq ft of main dining space, in three individual areas and back-of-house operations and storage.

During the six-month programme, work for the property team included a full internal strip-out and reconfiguration, followed by a comprehensive fit-out. This has delivered a new customer-focused layout, complete with bespoke upholstered seating, stunning wallpaper and luxury lighting to enhance the overall dining experience.

Morris Property’s joinery team played a key role in bringing the interior to life, supplying and installing a bespoke bar alongside a range of custom features, including seating booths and integrated planters, creating an inviting environment for guests.

Mark Bennett, Contracts Manager at Morris Property, said: “This has been a rewarding project for the team, working within a listed building in such a prominent town centre location. We’ve worked closely with the client and design team to create a high-quality space that respects the building’s character while delivering a modern dining environment. We’re proud to have supported Avatar Restaurant in this next stage of their growth.”

Barry Prince, Architect at Newcombe, Farrer and Holt, added: “Morris Property came on board through a competitive tender process, and we’ve been really pleased with how the project has come together. It’s an important site for our client, and the finished restaurant creates a great space to support their continued growth.”

Robin Sharma for Avatar Restaurant said: “We are excited to welcome customers to our new home next week. The finished space has exceeded our expectations, offering a larger, refined setting that reflects our passion for flavour, hospitality and atmosphere. We’re counting down the days to welcome our old and new customers to our new location.”
